MS. CARITA was founded in 1972 by Merritt and Carita Mosby. Before the company was started Merritt Mosby was a San Francisco area truck driver. He was cited by the California Highway Patrol for using a "WIDE LOAD" sign on his truck that did not meet the state’s regulations. Merritt and Carita decided to fabricate their own "WIDE LOAD" signs because in those days, "WIDE LOAD" signs were not commercially available. Within weeks, other truck drivers and a San Francisco truck dealership were requesting similar signs.
After attending classes in screen printing and seminars in starting a business, Merritt and Carita created "MS. CARITA, INC.". The name was derived from a popular trend at that time, using the courtesy title "MS." in front of a woman’s name.
They felt that "MS. CARITA" would be a name truckers would remember. (A Feminine name in a Macho industry).
Over the years, "MS. CARITA" has grown from a spray paint and stencil shop in the family’s garage, to a leading Manufacturer and Distributor of Innovative Truck Safety products worldwide. In 2003 Ms.Carita began a branding campaign for their transportation safety products, hence the introduction of the SafeTruck name.
